Bred in the Rift Valley in the heart of Africa, Durban Poison may be the real blood diamond over there. With compact, dense nugs that give off a sweet, almost candy-like aroma, it is little wonder that the Poison, born in the cradle of civilization, has spread its long, Sativa fingers to reach nearly every corner of the world. This seems like an inevitability when realizing that Durban Poison was created by mixing a high-grade African strain with a particularly potent early Dutch Skunk plant. Delivering a strong, cerebral, “up” high that is indicative of the best Sativas, this Cannabis Cup winner has earned its rightful place among the best strains of weed to ever be created.

For indoor and outdoor

Durban Poison can be grown both indoors and out but, like many Sativas, the Poison seems to prefer the outside more. Since it has a high resistance to diseases and mold, the plant is almost begging to be planted outdoors. Unfortunately, this is the crux of the Sativa paradox. Strains in this family grow better and more fruitful outdoors because of their inherent hardiness but the other main characteristic of Sativas, very tall and long-leafed plants, makes them that much more noticeable to poachers and lawmen when outside. Durban Poison isn’t known for delivering a particularly high yield, but its quick flowering time makes it more than worthy for a long yield, especially considering how well it grows even in the harshest conditions. The high THC content is also evidence that Durban Poison works well as a “quality over quantity” plant.

Just because Durban Poison prefers the outside doesn’t mean that you can’t grow it indoors as well. In truth, many people have found that trying to grow the strain with hydroponics in a closet has led to a lower amount of THC and a generally inferior final product but this could be due more to inexperience on the grower’s part rather than a problem with Durban. As mentioned before, Durban can handle nearly all climates and a decent grower can manage something that is at least close to the yield from an outdoor Durban if they know what they’re doing. If, however, you are able to grow your Durban Poison outdoors, you will be in for a remarkably stress-free growing experience. Since Durban Poison is from Africa, it thrives in hot, humid temperatures and can quickly reach ten feet in height when it is in its proper element. Even if you live a bit further from the Equator, Durban Poison can still grow with a vengeance, making it one of the easiest weeds to grow. It can deliver high quality, resin-covered buds even in the worst weather conditions. Add to that its high resistance to pests and fungi and you’ve got a wonderful beginner’s strain. The Durban’s flowering rate is enjoyably brief, delivering a yield after eight short weeks that, if done right, can bring you in a harvest of two hundred grams for each square meter. You should feel that classic spacey, almost trippy high right away if your Durban was grown right. Congratulations! You’ve grown one of the easiest pot plants to grow! Now why don’t you pick up some Haze seeds and give them a whirl?
